OSHA Increases Ways Employers Can Be Targeted for Inspection

Employers with above-average workforce injury and illness rates in 2017 that increased in subsequent years can now be targeted for a federal OSHA inspection, the agency said in a revised enforcement directive.

The new instruction is for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Site-Specific Targeting Program. The initiative allows for planned inspections—as opposed to those that are based on a complaint or worker hospitalization—of non-construction workplaces such as factories and warehouses that aren’t already covered by other OSHA inspection programs.
