Nexsen Pruet Opens Texas Office

01.08.2021

After 75 years of growing legal services based out of offices in the Carolinas, Nexsen Pruet has expanded its office footprint into Texas. Attorney Matt Ormiston leads the firm’s Austin, Texas location, the first outside the Carolinas.

The western expansion comes in order for Nexsen Pruet’s Agribusiness attorneys to better serve clients across the country. For decades, firm attorneys have represented clients within the Farm Credit System, which offers financing for food production projects, rural homebuying, health care providers, schools and other agriculture-related businesses and cooperatives.

“Pat Brown and David Gossett transformed agribusiness financing in the U.S. when they contemplated and created the Rural America Bond Program,” said Leighton Lord, Nexsen Pruet’s board chairman. “The seeds they planted years ago have grown exponentially, so we are pleased to be opening a Texas office with Matt at the helm.”

Before joining Nexsen Pruet, Matt K. Ormiston served as associate general counsel for a cooperatively owned wholesale funding bank within the Texas Farm Credit District (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas). He earned his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University.

About the Rural America Bond Program

In 2005, AgFirst Farm Credit Bank requested new concepts for utilizing investment authority (rather than lending authority) to bring financing to small towns in rural America. Brown and Gossett developed the bond program which “provides vital support for agribusiness” by allowing Farm Credit Associations to purchase bonds.

Nexsen Pruet serves clients from nine offices across the Southeast. With more than 200 lawyers and professionals, the firm provides regional, full-service capabilities with international strengths.
