Jackson Lewis Names Melissa Ostrower Co-Leader of Employee Benefits Group

NEW YORK, NY (June 6, 2022) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Principal Melissa Ostrower has been appointed co-leader of its Employee Benefits group. Melissa has almost 15 years of experience in executive compensation and ERISA litigation matters and will lead the group alongside Principal Joy M. Napier-Joyce.

“Melissa has been with the firm for more than a decade and has invaluable experience in a wide range of employee benefits issues,” said Firm Chair Kevin G. Lauri. “Since joining the firm in 2009, Melissa has proven herself as an exceptional resource to clients and her peers, making her a natural choice for this position. I am confident Melissa and Joy’s leadership will enhance the group’s capabilities to meet our clients’ strategic and business objectives.”

Melissa focuses her employee benefits practice on general compliance and administration of qualified retirement plans and nonqualified retirement plans. She assists clients with welfare plan issues involving cafeteria plans, health plans, flexible spending accounts, COBRA and the Affordable Care Act. She regularly speaks on all benefits issues including federal health care reform, fiduciary compliance and executive compensation. Additionally, Melissa advises on executive compensation matters, including issues related to compliance with Section 409A, 162(m) and 280G of the Internal Revenue Code.

Melissa represents clients in connection with Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor audits and information requests. She also assists clients in fixing plan operational and document errors. Melissa negotiates with benefits providers, volume submitter and prototype vendors, TPAs, insurers and auditors. She also advises clients in connection with phantom and equity-based compensation arrangements.

Melissa earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, her LL.M. from New York University School of Law and her B.A. from Brandeis University.
