‘Disparate Impact’ Impacts Fortune 500 Company: Think Twice Before You Use Criminal History Information
Dollar General is the latest employer to settle with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) over its use of criminal background information in the hiring process. The EEOC’s lawsuit argued that Dollar General’s hiring and screening procedures, even though facially neutral, had a disproportionately negative effect on African American applicants as compared to white applicants. Get Ready to Spring Forward With a New Form I-9
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has published a new version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Although the form was released last week on January 31, 2020, employers will be given additional time to make necessary updates and adjust their business processes. The new form, which has a version date of 10/21/2019, must be used on or before April 30, 2020. The version date is located in the lower left corner of the form. Use of an outdated Form I-9 after April 30, 2020, can result in fines. Continue reading >
