Employment At Will in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is an employment at-will state.  In general, an employer can terminate an employee for any reason or no reason at all, with very limited exceptions.  Obviously, an employer may not terminate an employee in violation of a statute.  For example, an employer may not discharge an employee because of his race, color or gender.  Absent such prohibition, an employee may not sue his or her employer for wrongful termination unless he or she can demonstrate that the termination violates a public policy mandate.  Such mandates are very narrow, but do exist.
