Alabama Governor Approves New Jury Duty Law (pdf).
Governor Bob Riley recently signed
a bill amending Alabama’s law governing
jury duty leave. Under the new
law, which was sponsored by Senator
Wendall Mitchell (D-Luverne), employees
cannot be asked to use their
vacation time, sick leave or unpaid
leave to respond to a jury duty summons.
Moreover, as long as the employee
reports for work at his or her
next regular work time after being dismissed
from a jury, the employer may
not take any adverse action against
the employee.
