Mr. McCollum works primarily in the firm’s employment law & litigation, and employee benefits & ERISA practice group, dealing primarily with business clients on federal and state laws affecting employers. Our emplloyment law practice area offers practical insights that help business clients better manage their workplaces with respect to employment law, executive compensation, and employee benefits matters. Business clients are advised on federal and state laws affecting employers and executive compensation, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, USERRA, COBRA, ERISA, and Section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code. Mr. McCollum also drafts and provides counsel regarding employee handbooks and policies, executive contracts of employment, nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, severance plans and agreements, retention plans, and vendor agreements for employee benefit plans.
Prior to enrolling at Washburn University School of Law, Darin served as the Director of Engineering & Manufacturing of Tayman Medical, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri and later the Principal Engineer for Hardware Development of Computerized Medical Systems (now Elekta / CMS, Inc.). While pursuing his Juris Doctorate at Washburn University School of Law, Darin completed a year-long externship for the Honorable Judge Julie A. Robinson with the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas and worked as an Intern Attorney in the Small Business and Transactional Law Clinic. Darin also served as a member of the Washburn Law Journal and had his Comment published, received several academic achievement awards, and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
