Cole Wist has more than 20 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts across the country. His primary practice areas are workplace safety and health and employment litigation.
Mr. Wist represents and counsels employers on a wide range of issues in occupational/mine safety and health law (OSHA and MSHA), including inspections, investigations, regulatory compliance, industrial crisis management, rulemaking, whistleblower and discrimination. Mr. Wist defends employers in accident and disaster investigations and represents companies in high-stakes and wide-ranging litigation following industrial emergencies. Mr. Wist also provides training for supervisors and management regarding liability prevention and crisis management. Mr. Wist has written extensively regarding trends and issues in occupational/mine safety and health law, including A Field Guide to MSHA, published in 2009.
In addition to his workplace safety and health practice, Mr. Wist represents employers on labor and employment matters, including breach of contract, trade secrets, non-compete, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful discharge. Mr. Wist also litigates cases involving product liability and toxic torts. Mr. Wist has significant experience in large-scale discovery matters, and previously served on national coordinating counsel teams for two large automotive manufacturers and a pharmaceutical company.
Mr. Wist is a member of the American, Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, the Utah State Bar, the Colorado Mining Association, and Club 20. Mr. Wist served on the Governor?s Task Force on Civil Justice Reform, and was appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees for Mesa State College. Mr. Wist is a Colorado Bar Foundation Fellow and is an accomplished trial advocacy instructor and mock trial coach. His high school mock trial teams have won numerous awards for professionalism and include a national finalist team. Since 2007, Mr. Wist has been recognized by his peers as a Colorado Super Lawyer, and he maintains an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
