Cheryl Stanton represents management in all areas of employment law, including employment discrimination, wage and hour, restrictive covenant and wrongful discharge litigation in both state and federal courts throughout the country. She also regularly counsels clients regarding employee hiring, discipline and termination of union and non-union employees, and drafts and reviews employment and severance policies and agreements.
Ms. Stanton has been representing private and government employers in labor and employment law matters since 1998, after completion of her clerkship with the Honorable Samuel A. Alito, Jr., in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In January, 2006, Ms. Stanton was elected a shareholder in the Firm, resigning that position in November, 2006, to accept an appointment as Special Assistant to the President and Associate White House Counsel. Ms. Stanton rejoined the firm in July 2008, after again having been elected a shareholder.
While serving as Special Assistant to the President and Associate White House Counsel, Ms. Stanton was the White House?s principal legal liaison to the Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as to numerous other departments and independent agencies. Ms. Stanton also served as the primary legal counselor for the White House Presidential Personnel Office, the White House Personnel Office and the White House Office of Management and Administration. In this latter role, Ms. Stanton provided legal advice for personnel matters involving appointees throughout the Administration, including White House staff. She also served as a member of the White House Judicial Selection Committee, where she assisted in identifying and evaluating candidates for federal judgeships.
Ms. Stanton has been a member of the Executive Board of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She also was a member of the Sidney Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court, and was awarded the Reitman Inn?s David Solomon Award (Most Outstanding Barrister or Pupil) in May, 2007. Ms. Stanton also served as the Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Essex County Bar Association and was named a New Jersey Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2006.
