Mr. Christina guides a wide variety of clients through the process of establishing and operating employee benefit plans of all kinds, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans with benefit structures tailored to individual client needs. Mr. Christina also represents employers and plan fiduciaries in benefit plan litigation in cases throughout the United States, including class actions. In addition to working extensively in the area of welfare benefits litigation, he belongs to the comparatively small group of litigators who routinely represent clients in pension litigation, often in cases involving complex actuarial issues. He also advises employers regarding the employee benefits aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate reorganizations.From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Christina practiced with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. From 1987 through 1989, he served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General and later as an Associate Deputy Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Christina was selected for inclusion in the 2003-2004 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.Mr. Christina has assisted clients in a variety of industries with such matters as: Resolving qualified plan compliance issues with the Internal Revenue Service.Plan mergers and spin-offs.
