Ms. Okura provides immigration counseling services to multinational companies. Her practice includes business immigration, labor certifications, immigrant visas, consular representations as well as outbound immigration services to Japan, China and other countries.
Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Okura gained legal experience while pursuing a law degree at the University of South Carolina. She served as a Graduate Assistant at the International Programs at the University of South Carolina providing immigration advice to international students regarding F, J, I-20, status change, OPT/CPT, work authorization and the recent changes in immigration law.
Ms. Okura gained considerable business experience in Japan and the United States. In 1987, she joined Nomura Securities Inc. in Tokyo, Japan and was assigned to the International Research Department. In 1988, Ms. Okura joined Mitsui High-Tec, Inc. in Fukuoka, Japan. She was assigned to the Overseas Department where she conducted market research, handled immigration matters, participated in business negotiations with Chinese governors and translated various business and technical documents from and to English, Japanese and Chinese. In 1997, Ms. Okura provided translation services to Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank at its Risk Management Office in connection with its compliance audit reports, investment manuals, government regulations and the related publications. Ms. Okura joined the International Asset-Backed Securitization Department at Bear Stearns Securities in 1998, where she analyzed issues related to securitizations of nonperforming housing loans.
While pursuing her law and business degree at USC, Ms. Okura worked as a research assistant, provided document review and translation services to a local law firm, and also conducted a healthcare audit for a local insurance company.
Ms. Okura passed the U.S. CPA exam in 1998 and was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2004. Ms. Okura lived in Japan, Canada and the People’s Republic of China and is fluent in Japanese, English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
Ms. Okura provides in-house immigration seminars/training for Japanese companies in the United States. She also provides immigration seminars to The Japan-America Society of Georgia. She also provides immigration articles to Japanese magazines, Japanese websites, and local Japanese newspapers.
