Profile

Mr. Cramer counsels and represents employers on a wide variety of labor and employment-related legal matters. He has advised clients ranging from small non-profits to Fortune 500 companies on employment matters, negotiated cost-effective resolutions to troubling disputes, and litigated to victory.

In 2003, the Chicago-based Law Bulletin Publishing Company named Mr. Cramer one of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40 To Watch.” More recently, Law & Politics magazine designated Mr. Cramer an Illinois Super Lawyer, based on a peer survey.

Examples of Mr. Cramer’s work include:

Enabling one formerly beleaguered client to drastically reduce EEOC charges and employment lawsuits by counseling the CEO and the HR Director on policies and all potentially volatile disciplinary and termination decisions;

Defeating a former employee’s attempt to certify a class of more than 200 employees alleging denial of overtime pay, then defeating the remaining plaintiff’s claims at trial;

Winning summary judgment on behalf of employers in numerous discrimination suits; and

Defeating a 27-count federal lawsuit brought by the former chief executive of a non-profit organization against the entity and each of its board members.

Mr. Cramer also practices traditional labor law. He has handled collective bargaining negotiations, union grievance arbitration, unfair labor practice charges, union avoidance campaigns, and federal litigation related to collective bargaining agreements.

A frequent speaker and writer on labor and employment law topics, Mr. Cramer serves on the Labor & Employment Advisory Committee for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He received a national Burton Award for Legal Achievement as co-author of Anonymity, Immunity and Online Defamation: Managing Corporate Exposure to Reputation Injury, published in The Sedona Conference Journal in Fall 2003.
