Linda Miller Savitt is a partner of Ballard, Rosenberg, Golper & Savitt and practices exclusively in the area of labor and employment law on behalf of management. She is a graduate of UCLA and Loyola University School of Law (JD 1980). Ms. Savitt is an experienced trial attorney having tried over 70 jury trials and is an advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She specializes in defending employers and individuals who are sued for wrongful termination, employment discrimination harassment based on sex, race or other protected classifications. She is also a member of the State and County Bar Labor and Employment Sections, a committee member of the State Bar Special Advisory Subcommittee on Labor and Employment Jury Instructions and is a director of the Association of the Southern California Defense Counsel.
She was named one of California’s top 75 women litigators by the Los Angeles Daily Journal in 2006.
She has also been named as a Southern California Super Lawyer and in 2005 and 2006 was named one of the Top 50 Female Super Lawyers and Top 100 Southern California Super Lawyers. In 2003, she had been named by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of California’s Top 50 Women Litigators. She was also featured in a cover story profile in the Los Angeles Daily Journal Verdicts and Settlements in April 2001.
In 2006, she received an award of attorneys fees for her client against the EEOC, for having to defend against a meritless case involving six claimants alleging harassment and pregnancy discrimination. This was the largest award ever against the EEOC. Ms. Savitt has represented the health care industry, public sector, retail, law firms and other industries for over 25 years and successfully defended numerous cases of harassment and related issues. See Cooper v. Superior Court (1997) 56 Cal.App.4th 745 (trial court order to vacate allegations of punitive damages against physician accused of sexual harassment - subsequent defense verdict at trial). Cedars-Sinai Medical Center v. Superior Court (1988) 206 Cal.App.3d 414 (dismissal of criminal charges following employee’s arrest and incarceration does not form the basis for malicious prosecution action against employer). She was lead counsel on the opinion Pang v. Beverly Hospital (2000) 79 Cal.App.4th 986 which is one of the initial opinions interpreting the California Family Rights Act.
She was the trial lawyer who successfully defended San Pedro Peninsula Hospital in Fisher v. San Pedro Peninsula Hospital (1989) 214 Cal.App.3d 590 and received a defense verdict at trial. She also successfully defended Saret-Cook v. Gilbert, Kelly, Crowley and Jennett (1999) 74 Cal.App.4th 1211, a claim of sexual harassment and sex discrimination and received a $450,000 judgment for her client on a cross-complaint against Ms. Saret-Cook as well as an award of attorneys fees.
Ms. Savitt frequently lectures to management groups, administrators, judges and physician groups as well as various bar sponsored groups. She also serves as a volunteer court appointed mediator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s mediation program and is a member of the 2005-2006 Blue Ribbon Committee on the Superior Court.
