AREAS OF PRACTICE
Mr. Zonn focuses on all aspects of labor and employee relations law representing management. He has extensive experience in the investigation and litigation of all forms of employment discrimination claims before local, state and federal agencies and state and federal courts, involving a wide variety of employers ranging from the airline industry to education. He has also litigated employment at will claims. Mr. Zonn frequently represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board in representation proceedings, unfair labor practice cases, and handles collective bargaining negotiations and arbitrations. Additionally, he has been involved in wage/hour investigations with the United States Department of Labor, along with unemployment compensation matters.
In an effort to minimize the risk of potential litigation, Mr. Zonn also spends considerable time counseling clients on general labor relations and equal opportunity advice including reductions in force, disciplinary matters, maintenance of union free status, development of personnel policies and employee handbooks, affirmative action plans, and wage and salary planning. He has also negotiated and prepared separation and severance agreements designed to insulate employers from future litigation.
Mr. Zonn has conducted training for clients focusing on practical responses to employment issues in the workplace, including sexual harassment, effective hiring practices and maintenance of union free status.
Mr. Zonn is the managing shareholder (partner) of Littler Mendelson’s Pittsburgh office. He is a frequent lecturer on labor and employment law, and has participated in numerous programs sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (including its annual Employment Law Institute), the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Pittsburgh Human Resource Association, and the College and University Personnel Association. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association, and is a past president and board member. Mr. Zonn is a graduate of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Pittsburgh Program.” He has also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Mr. Zonn is currently the secretary to the Board of Trustees of Robert Morris University.
Mr. Zonn is a member of the Pennsylvania and Florida Bars, the American Bar Association, and a variety of local bar associations. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of Florida and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Zonn served as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force from 1972 through 1978, both on active duty and active reserve, and was promoted to the rank of Captain while stationed in the United States and Southeast Asia.
