Employers that willfully make false statements are subject to criminal penalties, including up to six months imprisonment (29 CFR &1904.9). Because of OSHA’s limited investigatory resources, the agency relies heavily on record keeping to enforce the act. As a result, the agency may pursue record keeping violations with great diligence.
