Lawyer Profile
Matthew T. Wakefield is a partner in the firm. He practices exclusively in the area of labor and employment law, representing clients in a wide variety of industries. He represents private sector employers in collective bargaining with labor unions, as well as in arbitrations and litigation related thereto. Mr. Wakefield also represents employers in state and federal courts, and in administrative proceedings and hearings, such as before the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the California Labor Commissioner. He provides counsel to employers concerning all areas of employment and labor law, including human resources decisions, union organizing, personnel communications, collective bargaining, employment policies, employee investigations, and compliance with state and federal laws.

Mr. Wakefield graduated cum laude and a member of Order of the Coif from the University of San Diego in 1994. He was Executive Editor of the San Diego Law Review, and the 1994 recipient of the Brundage & Zellman Award for Excellence in Labor Law. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1984 from California State University, Hayward.

Mr. Wakefield is co-author of "Wage and Hour Laws," found in Advising California Employers. He also lectures employers and management groups on numerous employment and labor law subjects. He is admitted to practice in all California courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth, Ninth, and District of Columbia Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of California.
