Jared H. Meyer concentrates his practice on labor and employment law and litigation, labor arbitration and related matters. He was an attorney with Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling when it joined Buchanan in 2006.

Among the many significant labor and employment matters in which Jared has recently been involved are:

  • Serving in 1999 as principal labor counsel to a major integrated steel manufacturer in successful negotiations with the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) for a successor collective bargaining agreement.

  • Serving as chief arbitration representative for a major integrated steel manufacturer in significant disputes with the USWA on issues of job elimination, contracting out, its Productivity Agreement and its Employment Security Plan.

  • Prevailing on behalf of a major refractories manufacturer in a multimillion-dollar pension arbitration dispute over whether USWA-represented employees at a closed location had the right under their collective bargaining and pension agreements to accept layoff so as to creep to an enhanced pension.

  • Representing a major titanium manufacturer in the successful arbitration of two major profit-sharing plan disputes with the USWA.

  • Prevailing on behalf of a Kentucky gas utility in an arbitration dispute with their employees’ union over the meaning and application of several provisions of their collective bargaining negotiations Settlement Agreement.

  • Drafting and negotiating with Pittsburgh area building trades a Project Labor Agreement that covered the construction of Heinz Field, the new home of the National Football League Pittsburgh Steelers.

  • Representing several Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities in the successful arbitration of grievances brought by the union representing university faculty.

  • Representing a major hotel chain in the successful arbitration of a dispute involving the discharge of a union steward for misconduct as a hotel employee.

  • Successfully drafted and negotiated two rounds of collective bargaing agreements for Heinz Field maintenance/ground crew employees, Retail Sales Vendors, and ushers/ticket takers.

    Jared was employed for more than 31 years by USX Corporation, retiring in 1998 from the position of senior general attorney, employee relations and benefits. During his career at USX, he worked in the Labor and Employment Group of the USX Law Department, as well as on a variety of assignments within USX’s line labor relations department, including serving for eight years as the general manager of arbitration for USX and participating in all USX-USWA labor negotiations from 1968 through 1994.

    He served from 1964-1967 as a captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps.
