Lawyer Profile
Stan Brown is a Director of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group. His practice encompasses a wide range of employment and labor law issues. Stan was recently recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business 2005 as a Leading Individual in Employment law practice in Virginia, and has also been selected by the Washington Business Journal as one of Washington's top employment lawyers. He is also listed in Who's Who Legal USA - Management Labour and Employment 2006.

Stan represents management clients in collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, unfair labor practice, and representation cases before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB); single plaintiff and class action equal employment litigation before the courts and administrative agencies; and in wrongful discharge, health and safety, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation. He also represents clients in injunction cases arising out of strikes and picketing; in cases involving the Fair Housing Act and the public accommodations title of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); and in employment agreement disputes relating to middle and top-level executives. Stan has litigated cases in federal and state appellate and trial courts, both before judges and juries. He counsels clients on a wide range of issues, from ADA compliance, to Sarbanes-Oxley Act matters, to the negotiation of executive employment agreements.

Stan's practice has involved the representation of clients in a diverse group of industries, including telecommunications and other technology employers, automobile and automotive parts, construction, broadcasting, real estate management, publishing, and healthcare.

Stan has taught labor relations courses at the Cornell University School of Industrial Relations and the Georgetown University Law Center. He also has published articles and has been a speaker before various employer and bar groups on labor law issues. He has presented papers at conferences sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and received a Certificate of Commendation from that agency for his contributions.

Following law school, Stan spent four years as an attorney in the Appellate Litigation Branch of the NLRB, where he represented the board before the U.S. Courts of Appeals across the country, and before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Stan was selected by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia to be a member of the faculty of the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course.
