John F. Emerson(Of Counsel)Nexsen Pruet, LLC Lawyer Profile John Emerson is an attorney in Nexsen Pruet’s Columbia, SC office and practices in the employment and litigation groups. Mr. Emerson comes to Nexsen Pruet from Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. where his practice areas were employment law and insurance defense. Mr. Emerson has also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Robert F. Chapman of the U.S. Fourth Circuit. From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Emerson served in the statewide position of Chairman of the South Carolina Educational Television Commission. The commission oversees South Carolina’s public television and radio network. Mr. Emerson received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the student editorial board of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal, admitted to the Order of Wig and Robe and received the John Holland Scholarship Award. Mr. Emerson is licensed to practice law in South Carolina and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Mr. Emerson has been actively involved in professional legal groups such as the American Bar Association, where he chaired the Public Relations Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, and is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association. Mr. Emerson is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Richland County Bar Association. Additionally, Mr. Emerson is a member of the board of Junior Achievement, and has served as chairman of the Richland County Public Library Board of Trustees and as president of the South Carolina Shakespeare Company Board of Directors .
