James A. Patton, Jr.(Shareholder)Birmingham Employment Lawyer Lawyer Profile Mr. Patton graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1996. He was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif and the Moot Court Board. He served as the Lead Articles Editor for the University of Alabama Law Review. Mr. Patton obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987 where he was a Distinguished Cadet. Following his graduation from West Point, Mr. Patton served as an officer in the United States Army on both active duty and as a reservist. He also worked in manufacturing industrial settings for three years prior to attending law school. Mr. Patton began his professional career in 1996 as a law clerk to the United States District Judge Ira DeMent in the Middle District of Alabama. After clerking, Mr. Patton relocated to Birmingham, where he has focused his practice on employment litigation and counseling. He has defended employers in federal and state courts as well as before governmental enforcement agencies. He has also successfully defended employers in employment arbitration matters. In addition to his employment experience, he also has worked on other complex litigation matters including several class actions.
