Dara Penn Newman(Associate)Philadelphia Employment Lawyer Lawyer Profile Dara Penn Newman is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and represents employers in litigation involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act, as well as many other federal and state employment-related claims. She also counsels employers on personnel administration, practices, and policies. While in law school, Ms. Newman was a judicial intern for the Honorable Raymond J. Broderick, Senior Judge, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Newman authored "Finding the Standard of Liability Under Title IX for Student-Against Student Sexual Harassment: Confrontation, Confusion, and Still No Conclusion," while a member of the Temple Law Review (1997). Ms. Newman has since co-authored several employment-related articles, including "Putting an End to Your Case: Release and Settlement Agreement Basics," for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 7th Annual Northeast Regional Employment Law Institute (2001); "Constructive Discharge: Employees Who Couldn't Wait to Be Fired," for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 8th Annual Northeast Regional Employment Law Institute (2002); "Ending the Dispute: Releases and Settlement Agreements," for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 10th Annual Northeast Regional Employment Law Institute (2004); "Admissibility of Affirmative Action and Self- Critical Analysis Evidence," for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's course on Evidence for Employment Lawyers (2005); and "Sex, Race, and Other Harassment in the Workplace," for Sterling Educational Services, Inc.'s course on Recent Developments in Employment Law (2006). Ms. Newman served on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association from 2000 through 2003, and during her tenure organized and served as a lecturer in employment law for The People's Law School, a popular program provided to the general public annually. She has also organized a program in which she and other attorneys spoke to high school students regarding the law, as well as has judged high school and college students in mock trial competitions.
