Mr. Merrell attended and completed his undergraduate work at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.  He graduated cum laude from Clemson in 2003 with a degree in financial management.  He then received his J.D. in 2006 from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he graduated cum laude.  During law school, Mr. Merrell served as a staff member for the South Carolina Law Review.

Mr. Merrell concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of employment and labor law.
