Peter H. Kiefer(Shareholder)Washington Employment Lawyer Lawyer Profile Mr. Kiefer, a shareholder in the firm's Washington office, has practiced labor law since 1975 and has extensive experience in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, EEO, Railway Labor Act and NLRB litigation, handling arbitrations and wage and hour problems, as well as in counseling clients on a broad range of labor and employment matters. He was chief outside negotiator in complex, nationwide bargaining for a trucking client that led to five-year master and local agreements affecting over 9,000 employees. He has had lead responsibility representing management in successful union election campaigns, including several campaigns in the airline industry, involving tens of thousands of employees. He was also instrumental in the satisfactory resolution of a 20-month strike of some 2,000 employees, and the litigation spawned by that labor dispute. In addition, he was also lead counsel for over five years in a massive EEO backpay proceeding in federal district court. Moreover, Mr. Kiefer has advised a number of foreign companies and other law firms representing those companies in establishing American operations, and on the labor-related aspects of doing business in the United States. As part of that representation, he has often traveled to the Orient and the Caribbean for client consultations. He also has conducted "due diligence" labor and employment audits for clients contemplating sales, mergers, acquisitions and public offerings. Mr. Kiefer has argued numerous cases before federal courts, federal agencies, U.S. magistrates, arbitrators and state agencies. He has authored scores of briefs to various federal courts of appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Kiefer, who has been a partner in the firm since 1981, was born in Austria and is fluent in German.
